ART-MAKING EVENT**

To honor the true nature of Stonewall, RATPAC-ATX has organized the Month of Stonewall, which will be a series of events throughout the month of June. This is the first event is that series;

The existence of working class trans people and the struggles that we endure are something that deserve particular attention but yet have been historically ignored by the mainstream Gay Rights movement who have consistently thrown us under the bus in order to gain whatever small step “ahead” they see is within their grasp. The media only wants to acknowledge us when they see a chance to gain some kind of social justice points by reporting on one of us being murdered, but where are they when we are over and over unjustly harassed by police, bosses, or landlords, where are they when we are evicted from our homes, spit on in the street, denied access to homeless shelters and many other necessary resources? The fact is, the state wants us dead, the media will not acknowledge us, and the mainstream Gay Rights movement has long forgotten about us.

It is time for us to come together and share our experiences and learn from one another how we can move forward! We want to provide a space and the supplies for the working class trans people of Austin to share these experiences that not only deserve, but need, to be shared as well as heard, through drawings, sketches, stories, poems, etc. If we are able to collect enough artwork, a compilation of all the contributed pieces will be put together and distributed. It is easy to feel isolated and powerless in this society that is actively working against us, but through sharing all of our stories we can see that the struggles we face are not just ours, many of us are fighting against the same forces and we do not need to struggle alone! This is is a call to all of the trans workers of Austin - together we can build the power necessary for liberation!
