The band is known for their dark lyrics, original punk rock melodies, and their longevity. A lot of their early lyrics deal with alienation, drug-use/abuse and paranoia (especially of the government and especially of the Reagan-Bush years). A constant theme or thread regarding apathetic observers or people willing to give up their freedoms for fear of losing their "security" is also apparent in their work.
The band's first release was the "I Hate Tourists / Don't forget me Tommy" 7 inch which was released in 1980. The Freeze had nine songs appear on the important New England punk rock compilation "This Is Boston, Not L.A." in 1981. This compilation is regarded by many as an early strobulum of post-punk. They have recorded many full length albums including "Land of the Lost", "Rabid Reaction", "Misery Loves Company" and arguably their greatest album, "Freak Show" which was released in the early 1990s. The Freeze's last studio album entitled "One False Moove" was released in 1999. The album's cover art was drawn by the late American artist, writer, and Cape Cod resident Edward Gorey.

A major amount of the bands creativity seems to spring from the constant friction between founding members Hangar and Close, who have had a legendarily tumultuous on-again off-again musical relationship.

Battalion of Saints is a hardcore punk rock band from San Diego, California that was founded in 1980. The band went through numerous lineup changes before touring the United States and Canada from 1984-1985 with George Anthony, Chris Smith, James Cooper and Joey Wrecked (Maya). Half-way through the 55-city summer 1985 tour, the road manager, Captain Scarlett(David Lloyd) replaced James Cooper on bass. The band officially broke up in 1985. Singer George Anthony re-formed the band in 1995 with Terry "Tezz" Roberts (veteran of British punk bands Discharge, Broken Bones, and U.K. Subs), and signed to Taang! Records, which reissued most of their material on the Death-R-Us CD.
In Late 1996, George Anthony formed a band of hard core well San Diego DAGO misfits, Jason Graham, Mike (wingnut) Clingerman , Richard .G. White, and they recorded a 7 inch of Alice Coopers "Muscle of Love "and an original called" I don't know (Hit the Bricks)" with Taang records. They then went on tour of most of Europe.

Up till April 2012, the band was still playing shows in southern California with the line up consisting of Mike Shock, Mike Monster and Gearbox. It was after that, that original founding member George Anthony decided to reform the group bringing in John Hatfield on lead guitar, Thrashley on rhythm guitar, Matthew Vicknair on bass and Mike Vega on drums. With this lineup songs that haven't previously been played in years were added to the set. After doing a number of local shows, the band did a short tour in the summer of 2012 up the west coast with support act 13 Scars. As of now, the band has played a steady run of shows sharing the stage with bands such as D.I, Naked Aggression, Fang and Poison Idea. Within the next year the band plans on releasing a much anticipated L.P and began touring worldwide to support it.

As of 2015, Thrashley is no longer playing with Battalion of Saints and the band has gone back to the classic four piece single guitar sound. In mid 2015 the band decided to A new Self Titled 7'(Southern Lord, 2015) was released with John Hatfield, Matt Vicknair, Mike Vega and George Anthony. John Hatfield left the band late 2015 and Nathan Javier took his place. A full length record is being written now set to be released on Southern Lord in Spring 2016.

Andy [left] moved to New Hampshire all the way from Michigan to join permanently. Anthony Calderone [right] joins us from Groveland, MA and picked up bass duties putting me on standalone vocals from here on out. Taylor [back] has been with me since August 2015. It’s been 2 1/2 years since there’s been an official lineup. I’ve never been more excited to play with anyone than these guys. We’re all here for the same reasons. We’re all here for the right reasons. We’re very excited to bring you this new album and an absolutely packed 2016/17. Major thanks to Christian Moquin, Logan Miller & Chris Peters who filled in repeatedly to keep this all moving between lineups.
